Hambleton (Ham) Lord has over 25 years experience in the software industry founding and building industry leading companies.Currently, Ham is the Managing Director of Launchpad Venture Group.Launchpad is a Boston-based angel group that focuses on seed stage technology companies. He manages the group’s deal flow, due diligence and investing activities. Ham is an active angel investor and advisor to early stage companies.He is a board member for Building Engines and a board observer for EveryScape.
Ham’s senior management experience was in the software industry, most recently as co-founder and Vice President of Marketing for Advanced Visual Systems (AVS).AVS develops software for scientists and engineers involved in applications such as Medical Imaging, Geographic Information Systems(GIS), Engineering Analysis and Oil&Gas Exploration.Muse Technologies acquired AVS in 2000.Prior to AVS, Ham helped launch two computational chemistry companies, MicroChem Technologies and Polygen. These two companies were pioneers in the development of software for drug discovery, and were part of an industry wide acquisition roll-up that resulted in Accelrys Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCL).
Ian Smith, strategic business advisor, Scot and masters athlete, has crammed a lot into his 28 years in business.Trained as an accountant in Glasgow, Ian has been a finance director, a venture capitalist, an investment banker and CEO of a US based software group.
This has given Ian a huge wealth of experience to assist management teams create “remarkable businesses”. He has a strong grasp of Anglo/American issues having lived and worked on both continents.
During the 90s he advised dozens of businesses on strategy, growth, acquisitions and grooming techniques to enhance shareholder value. He has turned many entrepreneurs into cash millionaires.
He has lectured around the globe on growing businesses and is the author of 3 books, “The essential guide to buying and selling unquoted businesses”, “Techniques for successful management buy-outs” and “Growing a private company” and has published numerous business articles.
More recently over the last 5 years, he turned around a worldwide software tools business, based in Massachusetts. The strategy was overhauled around the new vision of IT governance.
