2005 Winners

We are proud to announce the winners of the 2005 North Shore Business Plan Competition. 24 plans were narrowed down to six semi-finalists. The judges met on April 25 to select three finalists, who presented their plans before an audience of business leaders at the North Shore Business Plan Competition Finale on May 11, 2005.

First Prize- $5,000

  • SemiNex, Inc. plans to produce a high power semiconductor laser to be used to reduce acne, wrinkles and scars in cosmetic medical procedures. SemiNex, Inc. aims to increase the utilization of such FDA-approved laser treatments by offering a low-cost, increased performance laser. SemiNex, Inc. is based in Middleton, MA.

Second Prize- $3,000

  • BioPoint Solutions submitted a plan detailing how they feel they can increase productivity for drug discovery by developing a data management software product designed to organize complex scientific data produced in pre-clinical R&D labs . Additionally, BioPoint Solutions will offer information technology planning, data integration and implementation services.

Third prize- $2,000

  • Custom Medicine is a "pharmacenter" on Cabot Street in Beverly , which has been in operation for one year. Owners Bill and Mary Beckman want to capitalize on an underutilized market on the North Shore and increase demand for compounded medications- medications made from scratch in-house.

First Runner Up- $1,000

  • Best Friends Bakery bakes fresh, all-natural dog biscuits that appeal to "even the most finicky of furry family members." They hope to build on an exploding pet product market and see national potential for their dog biscuits.

Elevator Pitch Competition Winner- $1,000

  • Powerhouse Enterprises has designed and plans to build stylish modular "green" homes, that are both economical and energy efficient.
